Network/Data Center Information

Pooled Networks is a division of Steadfast Networks, a subsidiary of NoZone, Inc. a Wisconsin corporation incorporated in 2000, and because of this relationship Pooled Networks utilizes the fully redundant network and data center infrastructure of Steadfast Networks, one of the world's most trusted dedicated server and colocation providers.

What is Pooled Bandwidth?

Pooled Networks was founded to bring a higher level of service and reliability to the unmetered bandwidth market. Our Pooled bandwidth options provide our customers with a 100 Mbit/sec or Gigabit port that is not metered in any way, but at an affordable price. This is made possible by guaranteeing a certain amount of bandwidth and then offering additional bandwidth out of a shared pool that all customers can share. The larger our customer base gets, the larger the pool of bandwidth gets. This guarantees you a certain level of service for your initial bandwidth usage, but also allows you to burst well above those base usage levels without incurring any additional fees. We feel this method is superior to other shared unmetered bandwidth products as you know exactly what you'll be getting and what you can expect. In addition, we guarantee you will never be shutdown for using too much bandwidth, have your port capped at a lower level, or be billed for overages.

What you can expect:
100 Mbit/sec Pooled Network Connection - An unmetered 100 Mbit/sec port with 10 Mbit/sec of guaranteed bandwidth. You will always be able to push at least 10 Mbit/sec 24/7 with no packet loss and no slowdown. After the 10 Mbit/sec level, you will be able to use more bandwidth, but that bandwidth usage will be from the overall pool of bandwidth, provided to all customers. Normally, you will be able to use much more bandwidth than you are initially guaranteed, but this bandwidth usage may get some packet loss or see other slowdowns. You will almost always be able to use the full 100 Mbit/sec of incoming bandwidth.
1000 Mbit/sec Pooled Network Connection - An unmetered 1000 Mbit/sec port with 80 Mbit/sec of guaranteed bandwidth. You will always be able to push at least 80 Mbit/sec 24/7 with no packet loss and no slowdown. After the 80 Mbit/sec level, you will be able to use more bandwidth, but that bandwidth usage will be from the overall pool of bandwidth, provided to all customers. Normally, you will be able to use much more bandwidth than you are initially guaranteed, but this bandwidth usage may get some packet loss or see other slowdowns. These systems are capped to 100 Mbit/sec of incoming bandwidth by default to protect against DDoS attacks, but this cap can be lifted by contacting our support department.

Basic Network Information

GigE Lines on Juniper Our network utilizes routing and switching products from Juniper Networks and Cisco Systems, the leaders in the industry. We utilize Juniper M20 and M5 routers as border routers, Cisco 6509 (SUP720) switches as our distribution switches, and Cisco 2950/2960 switches in our aggregation/customer layer. Additional network equipment includes DDoS mitigation hardware on each of our incoming carriers, allowing us to mitigate multi-gigabit DoS/DDoSattacks. In addition, 10 Gigabit Ethernet is used at the core of the network to reduce the risks of internal congestion due to DDoS attacks and to maintain optimal flexibility. Our network is fully meshed, using BGP, and redundant with a wide selection of backbone providers, including Level(3), Savvis, AT&T, MCI/Verizon Business (Coming September), XO (Coming in September), PCCW Global, TeliaSonera, and supplemented by local peering. These carriers are brought into the data center via completely redundant paths.

Data Center Information

Servers in Our Data Center Steadfast Networks, the parent company of Pooled Networks, operates out of its own state of the art data center located in downtown Chicago, Illinois located in the Lakeside Technology Center, Suite 240, the same building in which Equinix is located. The data center offers complete redundancy in power, HVAC, network connectivity, and security. The datacenter facility sits atop multiple power grids driven by ComEd, with full UPS battery backup power and a diesel generators onsite. Dozens of backbone providers are available in the building via a simple cross connect. The data center was previously operated by 360 Networks with everything built to telecommunications grade specifications and it has maintained full operation, without any failures, since it was constructed.

The facility is protected by a state-of-the-art fire suppression system constantly monitors the physical environment for smoke, chemicals and other hazardous materials that might spark a fire. The data center uses a dual-interlock pre-action sprinkler system throughout the facility. These pipes are dry-filled with compressed air - until two alarm conditions are reached thereby releasing the valve to charge the system. Water is only released in the area when a sprinkler head has lost its seal, or is actuated, due to heat, AND the fire detection system has detected a fire condition. If a head is accidentally knocked off, water does not flow into the system. Any water discharged will be sprinkler-head specific, which will limit the potential for damage caused by over-spray.

Air control is critical in maintaining fast, efficient performance from our customers' equipment. To create the right environment, the data center is fitted with a comprehensive Liebert HVAC system that delivers constant, ideal air conditions, between 68 and 74 degrees Fahrenheit and between 40% and 50% relative humidity at all times. Our HVAC system uses efficient and effective chilled water cooling. HVAC systems maintain a minimum of N+1 redundancy, allowing the data center to maintain a constant, cool environment that is conducive to our customers' mission-critical equipment and operations.

The data center's power systems are equipped with a level of redundancy that guarantees continuous operation. To ensure that the data center is always operational, a multi-layer power generation system, using some of the highest grade equipment available, is in place. Conditioned AC power with two independent A & B power buses, respectively, is available. In addition, UPS, battery and diesel generators back up every system. Unlike some other data centers the climate control and security measures are also backed up with redundant power to ensure clean operation during power outages. The UPS systems maintain three hours of battery backup and a 2 MW diesel generator is onsite for longer outages. If there are issues with the diesel generator the three hours of battery backup gives ample time to dispatch a portable diesel generator system.

Visual confirmation and strict sign-in procedures, both conducted by trained security personnel, along with key cards, photo ID, and biometric verification ensure that only authorized personnel have access to our data center. No customers are allowed in our space unattended and staff is on-site 24/7. In addition, all aspects of the data center are monitored and recorded via color, hi-resolution digital video cameras. All video footage is kept on hand for a period of at least 30 days.
